We do not restrict class sizes – everyone is welcome. However, each participant must have access to a PopUp Mainframe instance (also called just “a PopUp”), ensuring hands-on engagement with exercises and real-world scenarios.

What is the PopUp Mainframe Certification Program?

It is a Training Program to establish a baseline knowledge of PopUp Mainframe product skills​ among our user community to ensure they get the best value from their PopUp Mainframe product

  • PopUp Mainframe clients and partners are eligible to request the PopUp Mainframe Certification program.
  • The program is delivered as part of PopUp Mainframe implementation service to our clients or through approved SI/service partners​

Yes, the first certification program has already been successfully completed and we are offering the program to other 3rd parties right now.

We see many products on the market and the success of them hinges on the right training for all users, and not just the capabilities of the product. As such we wanted to empower our customers to derive the maximum value from PopUp Mainframe by ensuring they are fully aware of its potential and operation.

 

Contact PopUp Mainframe and we can include it into your product implementation service – or even run it as a separate project. We will schedule these programs on an as requested basis.

This training program consists of self-paced online video-based training (around 6 hours), in addition to hands-on training sessions where instructors will be available to support and guide the students through the exercises. The course can be customized to suit trainee availability.

  • The training will focus on the usage of PopUp Mainframe specifically – this is not a mainframe training course. Existing familiarity with z/OS including administration, and Linux command-line basics will be necessary.
  • All students will need to be able to spin up a PopUp Mainframe Virtual Machine (VM) and access it as part of the hands-on sessions. Commonly, this is achieved by enabling students to access a Microsoft Azure subscription and stand up the PopUp Mainframe offering.
  • Infrastructure requirements for a PopUp Mainframe on Azure are (full details available here) – Linux VM – Storage – 120 GB for System disk and 1 TB for Data disk with memory of 16 GB).
  • It is beneficial for students to use an existing 3270 Emulator to access their PopUp via green screen (e.g.: IBM PCOMM, WC3270 etc.)
    • An alternative 3270 emulator is ZTI which is provided with the PopUp.
  • Students will need access to open the required ports to ensure network connectivity for their training PopUp
  • Students need to have sufficient time to do the self-paced learning and attend the hands-on sessions.

As the certification program is digital classroom-based, there is no theoretical restriction on class sizes – but it is recommended for everyone to have access to their own PopUp Mainframe instance to ensure they are going through all the exercises individually.
